Description

Well the months long rain and clouds finally gave way to four great nights in a row!  Seeing was some of the best I've ever had at home, and it was only 80%relative humidity, which is definitely the driest I've ever seen haha.  I could vaguely make out the Milky Way, and it was made abundantly clear how little sky we have without a bad light dome.  There are bad light domes immediately north and south of home.  I grabbed a few nights of data on the Elephant Trunk.  I started getting data on the Veil Nebula the last night and plan to get more data on it next week if the forecast holds.

It was also quite nice as my neighbor met another astronomer/astrophotographer that just moved to the area, so we spent some time getting to know each other the first night.  The last night we did some visual observing and tried playing around with his planetary camera.  The mosquitoes were out of course, but it's been so long that we just toughed it out.

I processed this image different than any previously to try some different things out.  I'll probably have some different revisions up later, but this first one I was going for a softer image.  Instead of taking the stacked SHO images, combining them first, stretching, and then dealing with the noise, I did a denoise on each filter's stacked image first and stretched each filter's image prior to combining.  It did lose some details, but I got the softer image I was hoping to get.  I would love to hear your thoughts.

All stacking and processing done in Affinity Photo.
